— Released 1st December 2014

If moving the mind and the feet with equal power is a brief for perfect dance music, then Romare can claim to have met it. The young producer’s music is infused with his passion for African American forms, from jazz to juke, and for collage based production methods. If moving the mind and the feet with equal power is a brief for perfect dance music, then Romare can claim to have met it. The young producer’s music is infused with his passion for African American forms, from jazz to juke, and for collage based production methods. The end result is a thrilling form of dancefloor music: the urgent, groove-ridden house of Voodoo Ray via the contemporary, electronic sonics of Nicolas Jaar. After winning the hearts of electronic touchstones such as Bonobo and Tiga with his early releases on Black Acre, Romare signed to Ninja Tune, and began work on his debut full length. That album is now complete. A stunning fruition of his studies into African American music, and his musical interpretation of his inspiration, Romare Bearden’s visual art, Projections is also a 21st century dance music classic-in-waiting: Fresh, funky as hell, deeply atmospheric and littered with stunning melody and compulsive rhythm.

By way of introducing the record, we present Roots. In its confident, startling structure, beautiful melody, collaged samples and irresistible groove, it's a perfect example of what makes Romare such an exciting artist.
